IMAGINE

Understanding the Paradox of our Perception

By Celeste Morningstarr

Overview

Think about the way most of us communicate today. In our ever-advancing technological world, our ability to communicate with others, not to mention the frequency most of us would be guilty of, occurs without hesitation, that is, unless you forget your charger. There's no doubt many of us believe, [can I get an AMEN!] those hundreds, if not thousands, of text messages, or status updates sent and received, are not only convenient, they're also an indulgence we feel we [literally] can't live without. Once upon a time we felt the same way about the telegram. Well, almost. Still, like the telegram, text messages lack a certain nuance. And, more often than not, it's the nuance – the message beneath the actual words, that lingers, and without our knowing it, it changes us. It seems I have taken up the mantle as the protagonist of my own story, along with a handful of philosophers. Then there's Fred, a character in his own right, with a sense of humor that could drive even the saintliest of us to run to the nearest establishment of ill-repute! Finally, an entity which seemed to have come of its own accord, I call Spirit. A being who may very well be the architect of our own humanity. I know what you're thinking - this woman is either off her rocker, or just may have stumbled, or should I say was led, into an unimaginable realm of possibility. At the end of each chapter is a series of questions, meant to spark the reader's (from 3 to 93) imagination, hoping they might respond spontaneously rather than predictably. However, IMAGINE theorizes that what the world accepts as normal behavior becomes a behavior demanded. In the end, IMAGINE offers the reader solace at a time when life is not always evident by the answers we've received as much as it is revealed by the questions, we ask of it.

Description

IMAGINE asserts that, to a great extent, our individual experiences have shaped the structure by which we apply the sum total of our knowledge; yet this is often nullified by an onslaught of ingrained misunderstandings we reference daily. Combine that with the education initiated by our family, friends, school, place of worship, and the workplace, and soon we begin to believe we have no voice of our own. IMAGINE stands as a reminder that every single one of us has developed a means of communication, primarily constructed by what we value, or hope to gain, and still, there is one being we have yet to begin a sincere and meaningful dialogue with - ourselves. The key message found within the pages of IMAGINE expresses the idea that by becoming willing participants, instead of hesitant observers, we will discover the opportunity to become more than we have permitted ourselves to be, and less of whom we thought we were. Still, every so often even the best of us forgets. In the end, IMAGINE is a friendly reminder that there are those moments that exist, if for no other reason, which bring about our own well-being. When we do this for ourselves, and in the spirit of honesty, not only do we significantly change our lives, but we also touch the lives of everyone else around us. Looking back, I can't imagine, pardon the pun, how my life would have turned out had I been staring at a tiny screen, without looking up to see what was right in front of me. A little boy, thoroughly enjoying his orange lollipop. For some unknown reason I stopped long enough to ask what I thought was a simple question. "Tell me little one, how does that taste?" He looked at me, with those big brown eyes, as though I had never experienced such satisfaction, and answered, "Wet." That wasn't what I expected. What I expected was akin to the usual, the ordinary, the so-called normal answer to what I thought was a simple inquiry. It's because of him, of that one moment in time, I had to author this book. From then on IMAGINE became the grand experiment, an expedition, and an invitation to escape what we all know as the BOX, otherwise known as Plato's Cave of unawareness.
