I Chose Adventure
A Memoir
by Jonathan Visbal
View author's profile page

Overview

Jonathan Visbal was born ambitious, eager to live the American dream and find success. A graduate of the prestigious Stanford Business School, Visbal joined a successful startup company and rose to the pinnacle of his career as a leadership advisor and executive recruiter at Spencer Stuart, where his clients included top Silicon Valley technology companies. And throughout his successful career, he never lost sight of his ultimate goal: living a life of adventure. In this rollicking memoir, readers will ride pillion for Visbal's thousands of miles of adventure riding throughout the Western United States, Europe and South America; share his thrilling, sometimes perilous, days riding wind and water from California to Maui, South Africa, and New Zealand; and join him onstage with his band, Jonnie Lipps and the Boardheads — the world's first windsurfing rock 'n' roll band — as well as superstars John Lee Hooker and Elvin Bishop and others. Visbal also raises the alarm about the devastation of climate change and the steady erosion of freedom in our technological world, but refuses to surrender his optimism for the future.

This is a story of adventure.  It is a memoir from the perspective of three of the author's passions: motorcycling, windsurfing, and playing rock 'n' roll.  A fast moving book that reveals how Jonathan Visbal created his own unconventional future, in hopes that everyone who reads it will have the opportunity to create their own fulfilling future and live their life as a work of art.  Visbal also raises the alarm about the devastation of climate change and the steady erosion of freedom in our technological world, but refuses to surrender his optimism for the future.

Endorsements

"Jon Visbal has lived the kind of life that anyone would envy, full of success and rollicking adventure. Who else do you know that not only rose to the pinnacle of success in business, but also made his mark as a rock 'n' roll performer, windsurfed around the world and has ridden countless thousands of miles on many continents on motorcycles? His candid portrayal of a life well-lived will keep you turning the pages, fast and furiously." — Clay Bonnyman Evans, author of "Bones of My Grandfather: Reclaiming a Lost Hero of World War II"

"For nearly four decades, I've deeply admired Jon's recipe for creating the perfect alchemy of adventurous abandon and disciplined attainment.  Never before has there been a more appropriate time for this book that is dedicated to Helen Keller's perspective on life: 'Life is either a great adventure or nothing.' Jon is a role model for curiosity, wisdom, and the deep value of pursuing adventure to attain happiness."  --- Chip Conley, Hospitality Entrepreneur and Bestselling Author
