Description

One commander chose to disobey. When a catastrophic chain reaction threatens civilization, a battle-hardened commander leads his rogue battalion and their families into exile. Cities go dark. Order collapses. On the first night, it becomes clear the old stories were never myths, but warnings. Epic military science fiction where ancient gods reclaim the battlefield and humanity must decide what it believes in to survive. "A masterful blend of mythology and futuristic warfare, packed with vivid worldbuilding and cosmic danger." — Readers' Favorite "Epic, high-stakes, and unforgettable. A brutal clash of humanity and gods with tension that never lets up." — Independent Book Review In the chaos that follows, Mars and Ares Augustus, brothers forged by discipline and loyalty to a ruthless empire, stand at the center of its collapse. Trained as elite soldiers, they now face a future where duty, loyalty, and survival collide, and every decision echoes across battlefields and reshapes the fate of entire worlds. Neptune returns from exile as the most dangerous symbol of rebellion the empire has ever known. Once a voice of hope, now a living threat, his defiance challenges imperial power and draws the attention of forces far older and more dangerous than any army. His war is no longer only against an empire, but against the gods themselves. From the abyss, Osiris awakens. God of death and renewal, his return unleashes chaos across the universe as ancient mythology collides with advanced technology. The fragile balance between mortals and immortals begins to unravel. At the heart of the conflict stands Hephaestus, a child marked by a rare and powerful ability. His survival could determine the future of humanity. His transformation may bring salvation, or total annihilation. As monsters hunt the refugees and gods choose their champions, survival becomes a war of faith as much as firepower. The Hoplite Battalion fractures between loyalty and rebellion as belief itself becomes a weapon. Enter a universe where gods walk beside mortals, where war is fought on the battlefield and within the soul, and where courage stands as the final defense against extinction. When myth collides with machine, no one escapes unchanged. What endures at Hoplite Ridge becomes the seed of humanity's myths, religion, and culture.

A sweeping sci-fi epic that has you questioning yourself Hoplite Ridge can only be described as a roller coaster of emotions that simultaneously entertains as a sci-fi book, but also forces you to look deep within yourself and ask what you'd do in a similar circumstance. At the basic level it's incredibly entertaining with page turning excitement as a thriving ancient human civilization on a distant planet undergoes a cataclysmic event that threatens the very survival of the human species. You find yourself rooting for the Hoplite battalion as they fight for their families and each other to survive the new world they find themselves in. It's through backstory flashbacks that you will find yourself questioning whether they're the good guys you desperately want them to be after all. The story shifts away from the Hoplite battalion for a lengthy ride following other characters along the way through a horrific survival experience. Characters you become emotionally invested in perish along the way and you find yourself cursing the gods that someone you've been rooting for has now fallen like so many others. Even the characters that survive, you soon learn they aren't the best of people. In their lives under the Empire they would have been considered reprehensible by the commoners of the land. Elites who do what they want with impunity. Elites who don't follow rules, they make them. Yet, through it all, when their power is stripped away and they get brought to their knees they begin to see a greater purpose. The book is filled with redemption arcs. Every character who undergoes redemption also undergoes great personal suffering. For without pain and sacrifice there can be no redemption. Those with the most sins against their fellow man shall suffer the most for redemption. The other genius of this book is that through all the journeys you follow you start to wonder how you'd behave in a similar situation. Would I help my fellow man or would I only help my family and those I was close to? To what ends would I be willing to go to save those I love? Am I willing to die for my loved ones? Am I willing to kill for my loved ones? Hoplite Ridge is a masterpiece of fiction blending sci-fi, mythology, religion, and technolog into an expansive world that makes you look internally and ask yourself what it means to be human. New Must Read Sci Fi Check out this Science Fiction novel that is one part mythology, one part cosmic warfare, one part technological advancement, and when the parts are put together, they equal a recipe for successful storytelling. The unique setting of Hoplite Ridge has the reader flying across the cosmos as the characters visit various parts of a world on the edge of disaster, in the hopes of escaping before it’s too late. Included in the pages are relationships that you don’t want to end, characters that you want to know more about, as well as those you feel like you’ve forged a friendship with. Some characters you root for, and others have you clutching your pearls as you hope your favorites survive their merciless onslaught of terror. These larger than life characters take on the task of saving lives, finding solutions to problems never before imagined, all with a sense of heroic valor that can only be found within the pages of Hoplite Ridge. Some of these characters had been long forgotten outside the pages of mythological story books, but when Sean Patrick Sayers has them return to assert their power, you know there will be hell to pay. The only flaw with this novel is that it had to end. It leaves you thinking about the favorite new “friends” you made long after you’ve finished reading. I give Hoplite Ridge two thumbs up, five stars, a solid 10, two snaps, and any other equivalent measure of excellence. Read more

Hoplite Ridge: A Sci-Fi Epic That Reimagines Humanity’s Fate Staying true to the tradition of science fiction, Hoplite Ridge explores the meaning of being human. Built around a story of apocalyptic war and social collapse, Sean Sayers takes readers on an epic journey that spans moments of individual vulnerability and willing sacrifice to the terror of ecological and technological Armageddon. Sayers’s story exposes—and then reconceives—the mythology of modern human progress. He weaves historical, religious, and scientific myths that have fueled humanity’s arrogant and inevitably violent sense of destiny and dominance. Against this, he suggests that fate may offer an alternative, more hopeful path. Hoplite Ridge presents symbols and events that initially feel familiar and conforming within universal concepts of God, progress, victory, or power. Yet when pulled out of the manufactured and manicured world of myth-makers, these symbols reveal themselves as horrid and inhuman. The novel immerses readers in a whirlwind of discomfort, confusion, and reexamination—but not hopelessness. Instead, Sayers offers a space where the power of human community—through sacrifice, love, and cooperation—can merge with the power of technology to overcome sickness, famine, and scarcity. Will humanity choose such a path? -Dr. Donald Wallace Professor of History and Genocide Studies Read more
