Overview
In "Hoplite Ridge," the cosmos teeters on the brink of collapse as ancient gods and mortal champions clash for control of existence. When the balance of the universe is at stake, even the observer must act. Amid the turmoil, two brothers loyal to a crumbling empire must navigate a treacherous path of survival and redemption. As apocalyptic forces converge, alliances will be tested, and the fate of existence will hinge on choices made in the face of annihilation. Blending mythology, science fiction, and epic adventure, "Hoplite Ridge" explores the fragile balance between order and chaos, and the choices that shape the fate of worlds.
Description
In "Hoplite Ridge," the fabric of existence begins to unravel as ancient forces stir and long-forgotten gods awaken. Osiris, the god of death and renewal, rises once more, threatening to upend the fragile balance between creation and destruction. The Vulture, an eternal observer bound to the Fold—a place where time and space spiral endlessly—has watched silently for millennia. But as the cosmos teeters on the brink, the time for passive observation is over. On the frontiers of a collapsing empire, two brothers, Mars and Ares Augustus, stand at a crossroads. Bound by blood and duty, they are warriors with starkly different visions for the future. Mars, stoic and unyielding, clings to the order that once defined their world. Ares, a cunning strategist, questions the foundations of their loyalty. Together, they must navigate a world where every alliance is fragile, and survival demands impossible choices. Meanwhile, Neptune, a rebel whose name inspires both fear and hope, prepares for a final confrontation. Once hailed as a savior and now branded a traitor, Neptune is no stranger to sacrifice. As the gods themselves begin to take sides, his mission grows more urgent. To prevail, Neptune must face the ghosts of his past and the weight of his choices. His decisions will either illuminate the path to resistance or doom everything to annihilation. At the heart of the empire's power is the Hoplite Battalion, an elite force long tasked with enforcing its brutal rule. Now, they face an impossible dilemma: remain loyal to the crumbling regime that shaped them or follow their leader down a path that could redefine humanity's future. As their loyalties shift and tensions rise, the battalion's unity fractures, and their choices will shape the outcome of the coming conflict. "Hoplite Ridge" is a sweeping saga of power, sacrifice, and the relentless march of destiny. It masterfully combines myth and science, crafting a world where gods and mortals collide, and every decision carries the weight of countless lives. In this universe, survival is not just endurance—it's the act of reshaping humanity's place within the vast forces that govern existence.

New Must Read Sci Fi Check out this Science Fiction novel that is one part mythology, one part cosmic warfare, one part technological advancement, and when the parts are put together, they equal a recipe for successful storytelling. The unique setting of Hoplite Ridge has the reader flying across the cosmos as the characters visit various parts of a world on the edge of disaster, in the hopes of escaping before it’s too late. Included in the pages are relationships that you don’t want to end, characters that you want to know more about, as well as those you feel like you’ve forged a friendship with. Some characters you root for, and others have you clutching your pearls as you hope your favorites survive their merciless onslaught of terror. These larger than life characters take on the task of saving lives, finding solutions to problems never before imagined, all with a sense of heroic valor that can only be found within the pages of Hoplite Ridge. Some of these characters had been long forgotten outside the pages of mythological story books, but when Sean Patrick Sayers has them return to assert their power, you know there will be hell to pay. The only flaw with this novel is that it had to end. It leaves you thinking about the favorite new “friends” you made long after you’ve finished reading. I give Hoplite Ridge two thumbs up, five stars, a solid 10, two snaps, and any other equivalent measure of excellence. Read more

Hoplite Ridge: A Sci-Fi Epic That Reimagines Humanity’s Fate Staying true to the tradition of science fiction, Hoplite Ridge explores the meaning of being human. Built around a story of apocalyptic war and social collapse, Sean Sayers takes readers on an epic journey that spans moments of individual vulnerability and willing sacrifice to the terror of ecological and technological Armageddon. Sayers’s story exposes—and then reconceives—the mythology of modern human progress. He weaves historical, religious, and scientific myths that have fueled humanity’s arrogant and inevitably violent sense of destiny and dominance. Against this, he suggests that fate may offer an alternative, more hopeful path. Hoplite Ridge presents symbols and events that initially feel familiar and conforming within universal concepts of God, progress, victory, or power. Yet when pulled out of the manufactured and manicured world of myth-makers, these symbols reveal themselves as horrid and inhuman. The novel immerses readers in a whirlwind of discomfort, confusion, and reexamination—but not hopelessness. Instead, Sayers offers a space where the power of human community—through sacrifice, love, and cooperation—can merge with the power of technology to overcome sickness, famine, and scarcity. Will humanity choose such a path? -Dr. Donald Wallace Professor of History and Genocide Studies Read more
