Overview
“Alley liked donuts. She liked them a lot. Her favorite ones were those Grandad bought when he visited her all the way from England. So she always called them ‘Granddad’s donuts!” This story tells what happens when a kind little girl shares a special donut treat with her pets at the time: two dogs, four cats, a tiny hermit crab, a little snake, a chubby squirrel, a plump goldfish and two scruffy looking dogs visiting from England! Alley called me when she was just five years old and when I picked up the phone, she said. “Hi Granddad, I’ve got a new donut.” And with that, she promptly hung up! This phone call started me on the road to writing children’s books, and I must thank my grand daughter Alley for this. Those unforgettable words naturally had to become the title of my first book, so, thank you Alley for being the inspiration of my first attempts at writing children’s books. I hope you enjoy it, and remember Alley, and all you kids out there, never, ever be tempted to show a delicious donut to your pet!

About the author
Born in Stone, Staffordshire in 1935, John West now lives in the Georgian city of Bath, England. He has two grown up sons who live in Golden, Colorado, and three grandchildren, the youngest of which is Alley who also lives in Colorado. It was a phone call from Alley when she was five years old that prompted him to begin writing books for children. He has fond memories of telling many-a-tale to his two sons Dominic and Julian, most of them invented as they were uttered. Having amassed over 50 years of international design and photography experience on three continents, and after writing numerous brochures and advertising campaigns for international blue chip clients, he is now focusing on his life long ambition, to publish a series of his own children’s books. John’s old scruffy terrier Bobo, a refugee from the local rescue centre who sadly died in 2000, is the inspiration behind the name Bobo Tails Books. John applies his keen eye for detail and inventive imagination to the stories and characters, and builds on the every day experiences of childhood to concoct books that tickle the senses. Superbly illustrated in a range of graphic styles, children will love them, and parents will too!
