About the author
Kaaren Paras, DC, grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 1998. She owns Paras Chiropractic in Middleton, Wisconsin. Dr. Paras is a certified nutritional counselor in addition to her chiropractic practice.
After starting her practice, Dr. Paras began to notice that some patients who came to her for relief from the effects of misalignments in the body also suffered from poor nutrition and dehydration. When these patients followed her advice and increased their water intake, they experienced a notable improvement in their condition.
In addition to her practice, Dr. Paras has provided chiropractic services at retirement homes and assisted living facilities in her area. There she witnessed an epidemic of elderly people suffering from the consequences of chronic dehydration and realized residents of these care facilities needed both education and help with handling dehydration. Dr. Paras began to explore the topic with regular presentations where she discusses chiropractic applications and stresses the importance of hydration in older people, aging adults, children and athletes.
Dr. Paras also is an entrepreneur. Besides founding Paras Chiropractic, she invented a hydration reminder device called the MiniMinder®. Her inspiration came from realizing that although people want to do better about drinking water regularly, they sometimes need a cue to remember.
Publication of "Every Sip Counts" is an attempt to help people better understand the importance of proper hydration and adopting the practice of taking sips of water or other healthy liquids throughout the day.
Dr. Paras researched the topic over several years and gathered information in a simple, concise format readers can use to improve their lives. Her goal is to make a good case for hydrating regularly and giving people the tools to make that practice a natural part of every day. It is her belief that through quality hydration people can experience better health, greater vitality and a longer independent life.
