Overview
After the suspicious death of his father, Kevin Whitehouse returns to his hometown of Brandon, Vermont to attend his father’s funeral. In short order, he uncovers clues pointing to the probability that his father’s death was no accident. The murder investigation that ensues plunges Kevin and David and Margaret into a circus of lies and deceit, as the homicide rate in this sleepy New England town begins to rise. In Edge of Darkness, big-city police work clashes with small-town attitudes as the two savvy private investigators—along with Kevin’s girlfriend, Margaret—scour every nook and cranny to flush out the killer and his motives before he kills again.
Description
Kevin Whitehouse returns to his sleepy hometown of Brandon, Vermont to attend the funeral of his father, an apparent suicide. However, once he settles in and gets his bearings, he feels compelled to delve further into the circumstances of his father’s death, which is looking ever more suspicious. When a series of murders that seem connected come to light, Kevin and his cohorts, David Allerton, his “partner in crime,” and Margaret Alexander, his up-for-anything girlfriend, join forces to investigate—despite the obstacles placed in their path by the local police and townspeople. Something is dreadfully wrong in Brandon, and since Kevin’s father seems to be at the center of it, nothing will stop the trio until the mystery is solved. Edge of Darkness abounds with twists and turns that will keep you turning pages nonstop until the very end.
About the author
Gregory Delaurentis was born in Brooklyn, New York, and from birth has been fascinated with the city and its teeming masses. As a youth, the subway system was his playground; as a teenager, its streets and avenues were his stickball courts; and as a young man, he cruised its dazzling nightlife for action. In other words, the lifeblood of New York City courses through his very veins. Gregory has also lived in California, New Jersey, Massachusetts and other locales, but has always returned to the city of his birth. Now, finding himself unfettered and free to pursue his first loves—writing and the city—he is busy with the Darkness saga, building on the characters that appeared in his debut novel, Cover of Darkness. Gregory finds himself drawn to the unusual, to the NYPD, and to the dark side in general. He enjoys writing about these fixations that never fail to intrigue him. Finding solace in his easy chair, a tall cup of coffee, his laptop and indie music, he stares out his window at the streets of Manhattan until he falls into the world in his head: traversing alleyways and unlicensed clubs, huddling with officers from the NYPD on cold bitter nights, kneeling with CSI technicians over corpses found in Central Park. He feels the heart and soul of the city, inhales its tainted breath and zeroes in on its criminal element. He hopes his stories reflect that.
