Boozhoo, my name is Jolene Quinlan and I am a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. Currently I am retired and making artwork of various styles to sell as a source of income. My artwork reflects my Native heritage: leather crafts, dreamcatchers, beadwork, ceramics, and paintings being my greatest seller. I attend a few powwows each summer and have sold some items online or at craft sales. My artwork generally reflects my connection to nature. I grew up in northern Michigan around the Frederic/Grayling area and spent most of my childhood outside. I graduated with honors from the Grayling High School in 1977. Shortly after that I attended Michigan State University and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1982, emphasizing in sculpture and ceramics. While at MSU I attended college for a summer overseas in London, England. Once I graduated I traveled for a few months and then began working for the Michigan Department of Military Affairs. This was a job I truly loved. After I got married and had children I moved to Mount Pleasant where my husband worked at the casino and I worked for Tribal Operations in several various positions. I live on the SCIT Reservation and as part of my love of nature, landscaped my acre with lots of trees, bushes, fruits, and rocks. I have referred to this work as part of my artwork. My future plans pretty much revolve around my artwork and family, attending powwows and continuing to sell.
