Dr. Lashenna Gaines is an education professional with 22 years of experience in education and leadership with a primary focus on elementary education. She began her career as a first grade teacher where she developed a love for teaching reading and supporting students in building a love for books. Fueled by her love for reading, Dr. Gaines wrote her initial book Daja's First Day of School to teach the character trait of courage through a relatable character facing a common problem. She has also written a second picture book, Daja's Day At The Beach that focuses on determination and perseverance. ​ Dr. Gaines loves literacy and recognizes the power of fostering a love for reading in kids.
