Overview
Poetry in free verse. Germany's World War II, a child's experiences, semi-autobiographic. English verse, German translation.
Description
This manuscript is partly autobiographic. It relates impressions of a six year old living in Germany at the beginning of World War II. When tides of war turned in favor of allied forces, when destruction and chaos within Germany ran rampant, children, lacking life’s experience, were often left to find their own solutions to encountered terror, sudden trauma. Fortunately, because of the lack of adult experience, they are usually able to adjust more readily to new situations. Coupled with a God given mental resiliency, they come through traumatic times chafed and scarred, but no less steeled, mature, and hopefully, more compassionate than their elders. The author hopes that the content will be of value to those who contemplate military action in any form. To them the author advises: your own children will become pawns, victims, statistics, because where blood is shed, there is never true victory.
