She was "at that age." At 52 years old, Laura had reached the age for a standard colonoscopy screening. In that standard screening, she was diagnosed with cancer. It wasn't colon cancer, but anal cancer.

This memoir is a noteworthy compilation of the author's personal story paired with pragmatic tips. Laura Zick-Mauzy hopes to encourage anyone affected by cancer by addressing the challenges of treatments and the aftermath, including chemo and radiation, survivor's guilt, lymphedema, neuropathy, vaginal stenosis, chemo brain, post-traumatic embitterment, and incontinence issues.

Laura Zick-Mauzy, a survivor of stage 3a anal cancer, has a background in clinical laboratory science, with a natural inclination for research. She is an awareness advocate, a published contributing author, a patient supporter in a peer-to-peer initiative, and a mentee for a well-known cancer network. Laura enjoys painting, upcycling projects, traveling, and spending time with family. She and her husband Paul live in the hills of beautiful Tucker County, WV.
