Beautifully Brown is a picture book celebrating brown skin in every shade. This book is intended to encourage children to love their skin, and to equally love and appreciate every other shade of brown that another person may come in.

Beautifully Brown is a picture book celebrating brown skin in every shade. A collection of brightly colored images showing brown children in many different shades, from very light to very dark, affirming how beautiful their skin is. This book is intended to encourage children to love their skin, and to equally love and appreciate every other shade of brown their friends, family members, and strangers may come in. The goal of this book is to teach brown children to be confident in their skin, and to combat colorism by modeling positive language about all complexions.

Candice Tavares is an artist and illustrator born and raised in the Philadelphia metropolitan area and currently based between Baltimore, MD and DC. Candice is a life long creative with a passion for creating art that celebrates Black beauty, love and culture. She was inspired to write and illustrate Beautifully Brown from her own personal journey to fall in love with her skin and a desire to encourage children to love and appreciate their shade of brown without feeling the need to compare it to anyone else's.
