About the author
Diagnosed at the age of 30 with a severe case of Interstitial Cystitis (IC), Catherine M. Simone was told that she would have to suffer this pain for the rest of her life. She stubbornly refused to believe that she couldn't figure it out and find a way to heal from this "incurable disease" that she had never even heard of before. Rather than subjecting herself to what she considered the brutal, barbaric treatments typically used by the medical community to treat IC, she sought an alternative approach. Fortunate to be diagnosed in 1994 shortly after the Internet was getting started, she was asked to become a co-leader of the first online IC support group that quickly grew to over a thousand patients. After recovering herself, she then turned to counsel others who were still suffering. Catherine became the first recovered patient to write a book about IC. In fact, when she wrote her first book there was not even a book that existed about this illness (only a chapter within one book). She was the first to write about IC from a holistic perspective and the first to claim that you could actually heal from it.
Before the research confirmed it, Catherine recognized that IC patients often had symptoms throughout their body. It was not enough to simply treat the bladder. In order to fully heal, she believes the whole body must be treated with special regard to the IC bladder. In the first book about alternative treatments for IC, she introduced the herb marshmallow root as an inexpensive, at-home soothing treatment for an IC bladder. Since 1995, she has spoken to thousands of IC patients from all over the world offering support, understanding, and guidance in the area of alternative medicine for IC and its related conditions. Catherine believes that you can fully heal from IC using natural, non-toxic, non-invasive treatments. She offers hope writing that, "Just because "they" haven't figured it out yet, it doesn't mean that you can't get better."
Through her personal story, her understanding of IC, as well as her experience with alternative treatment options, Catherine's focus has always been to empower IC patients to take control of their own healing and to help them believe that they can actually heal. Hope and empowerment are messages that resonate throughout all of her books and her DVD.
