Description

Ash Woven is a gripping memoir of legacy, sacrifice, and the unbreakable strength carried through bloodlines. Spanning more than 250 years—from ancestors who helped forge a new nation to a modern military family tested by devastating loss—this is the story of what happens when history steps into your living room.

When trauma reshapes everything familiar, one family is forced to ask: What holds when everything else falls apart?

The answer is found in those who came before. In the courage of forebears who faced war, uncertainty, and sacrifice—and left behind more than stories. They left a blueprint. A strength to lean into. A resilience to learn from.

As past and present collide, grief is faced together, healing becomes communal, and legacy transforms from genealogy into lived power.

Ash Woven reveals how ordinary families rise—not by escaping hardship, but by remembering who they are and standing together in the fire.

Read this book This book is personal to me. Karee Van Wert is my mom. I lived this story. Ash Woven is a memoir about our military family. Service, sacrifice, and a love that refuses to quit. When my oldest sister suffered a traumatic brain injury, my mom became her full-time caregiver. That changed everything. But it didn't break us. My mom connects our struggle to something bigger. She traces our roots back over 250 years to ancestors who faced war and loss and kept going. The strength we needed was already in us. We just had to remember it. I'm proud of her for writing this. She tells the truth about how messy and heavy life gets. But she finds something beautiful in it. Joy through tragedy. Hope through pain. If you are a caregiver, read this book. If you have ever been through something that felt like it would swallow you whole, read this book. Everyone experiences joy and tragedy in life. My mom's story is proof that those two things can exist together. Read more
