Karee Van Wert White served three tours of duty in Europe and the US, leaving the service as an Army Major and a paratrooper in Special Operations Command, based at Fort Bragg. Settling in Apex, NC, with her husband Jim, also a Veteran, seven of their nine children have served or are currently serving in the military. When their oldest daughter suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury in Italy, where she was stationed following a combat deployment to Afghanistan, the family brought her home to care for her 24/7 needs. Selected as a 2018 Elizabeth Dole Foundation Fellow representing the state of North Carolina, White seeks to bring greater awareness and support to our Nation’s over 14 million military caregivers. As a Chair Emerita of the Brain Injury Association of NC, she also serves on the NC Veterans Engagement and Research Panel. Selected as a 2021 National Patriot Scholar, she earned her Master of Science in Management and has just completed her first book, Ash Woven, which tells the story of one family shaped by generations of service, sacrifice, and love, tracing their journey through tragedy and renewal.
