About The Author


Rick Scheideman's passion for adventure has often led him to the top of many mountains. In this book the mountain is, in fact, a volcano. As an instructor at the Colorado Outward Bound School, a climbing guide in Rocky Mountain National Park, and teacher of mountaineering to university students. he inspires clients as well as students. Rick is something of a Renaissance man. He holds a doctorate in Psychology, taught in several universities, and works professionally as an actor, director, and musician. But, it is in the outdoors, whether on a cross-country ski trail, sailing to Santa Catalina, or climbing a fourteener in Colorado where he finds solace, challenge, and stories to share. "Alone: A Haleakala Memoir" is one of those stories.
