Description
Did you know birds eat worms? It's terrible, but true! The situation arose in the spring when the earth blooms, and birds start to sing. In addition to singing, birds built their nests and laid their eggs-two things they do best. But as eggs hatched babies broke out by the batch, mommy and daddy birds had to feed their young and so it was worms they snatched! Join Willamina, Queen of the Worms on her quest to save the residents of Worm Town (some call it a city). Themes include female leadership and empowerment, collaboration, ecology, teamwork, community, building bridges to create unity, letting go of stereotypes and false assumptions, and even the importance of a balanced diet. Recommended for ages 4-9, but adult readers are guaranteed a smile (and a few laughs too).
About the author
Anna began writing at the age of six while working with a tutor to overcome her learning disabilities. The tutor asked her to write and illustrate a story, and with that assignment Anna caught the writing bug. Soon she was crafting storybooks for her younger siblings, and by high school she wrote short stories, poetry, songs, and created two comic book series for her friends. This story was originally told to Anna's niece, Avery-a picky eater who needed a bit of coaxing to consume a plate of pasta. Anna told Avery about Willamina, Queen of the Worms (Avery enjoyed playing the role of one of the birds-hence the spaghetti was eaten). In addition to being a Super Aunt, Anna Koon lives Boston with her husband, Joe and her dog, Zeta. She works as a full-time artist, and is blessed to be a small business owner, and entrepreneur.
