In the chaos of Hurricane Maria's arrival in Puerto Rico, Allie and her family leaped into a midnight last-minute survival plan. They would embark on a 9-foot dinghy, through the open sea, with a GPS that could scarcely catch a signal, and without any opportunity to say goodbye to those they love.
