Overview
We all have feelings, and how we deal with them defines our personalities. While emotions add color and depth to our life, feelings that appear at the wrong time or place can create problems, and emotional reactions that do not match our wishes and desires have the power to make our lives miserable. If we were able to modify our feelings, we could improve our lives in countless ways. That’s what SECRET TECHNIQUES FOR CONTROLLING SADNESS, ANGER, FEAR, ANXIETY, AND OTHER EMOTIONS is all about. It teaches you how to observe your mind and body while you are experiencing emotions, to learn how your mind naturally regulates your feelings, and to use the information you gain through observation to modify your emotions consciously. The techniques described in the book are derived from several sources, including Buddhist and Taoist practices, but their efficacy does not depend on faith or religious belief of any kind.
Description
Steering clear of abstract discourse, SECRET TECHNIQUES FOR CONTROLLING SADNESS, ANGER, FEAR, ANXIETY, AND OTHER EMOTIONS provides readers with specific, effective techniques for modifying unwanted emotions and eliminating them at will. These techniques are based on observation of how the mind and body actually work. Through examples drawn from everyday life, SECRET TECHNIQUES shows readers how emotions are triggered somatically, and it invites them to recall and observe similar events from their own lives. By observing their own emotional states and applying the techniques explained in the book, they can quickly begin to regulate their feelings for the better, intentionally modifying or even completely interrupting an unwanted emotion’s formation. The practice of these techniques offers much-needed relief to people whose lives are now limited by emotions—worry, stress, fear—that they cannot control. Reset reflects author’s nearly 20 years of Buddhist meditation experience, but the book makes no mention of religion, and the exercises it describes can be easily performed by anyone of any (or no) faith tradition. The variety of techniques offered ensures that each reader will find something that works in his or her own life.
About the author
Vlad Koros (pen name of Vladislav Korostyshevskiy) is an acupuncturist who has published several articles in leading acupuncture journals and conducts continuing education seminars for other acupuncture practitioners. Born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine, Vlad first became acquainted with the healing arts at the age of fifteen, when he began studying under a traveling monk. That study lasted for two years, until Vlad immigrated to the United States in 1991. While a student majoring in biology at Touro College in Manhattan, he continued to seek out information on ancient meditative and healing techniques. That search led him to a Korean Buddhist monastery in New York, where he pursued a four-year-long apprenticeship. He later studied acupuncture at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, and now practices in Brooklyn, New York, where he also lives.
