Overview
The Enneagram has captured the imagination of and been embraced by of a growing number of evangelicals. It was first introduced into the church by disciples of Roman Catholic priest, mystic and "contemplative," Father Richard Rohr. It is claimed that the Enneagram is ancient, was used by many cultures, and is not only from God but is "the face of God." The Enneagram is a spiritual tool, but is it a spiritual tool which brings about better understanding of one's self and the God of Scripture? That is the question.
Description
Many in America and indeed around the world attend church to learn about God, to learn about ourselves and to connect with God and others. Along with that is a general belief that the church will be spiritually safe. After all, the best source of knowledge about God comes from His self-revelation which is contained in His inspired, inerrant word, the Bible. Many things can be confusing when trying to figure out the Bible on your own. Pastors and church leaders are looked to and relied on to carefully teach and guide the church family. They are trusted to keep false teaching outside the doors, preventing it from springing up within the church. Unfortunately, false teaching operates on a spiritual level like a virus does on a physical level. A pastor, elder or someone they trust may be introduced to new idea, spiritual tool or concept from what is believed to be a reliable source. It may be embraced as a path to a better understanding of God and self. Perhaps it offers a way to greater spiritual growth and perhaps numerical growth for the church. Even with the best intentions and efforts of spiritual leaders, they become spiritually infected and in turn, pass it on to the flock they care for. We would suggest that is what we have been witnessing with so many who have embraced Richard Rohr and the Enneagram he has delivered into the church through his disciples. The claims for the Enneagram are simple. Supposedly it is an ancient tool used by some of the Early Church Fathers. It is claimed to be the "face of God" and each Enneagram number is an individual spiritual path to deeper spiritual understanding and fuller self-awareness. But what if this is one of the largest deceptions we have seen perpetrated on the church in a very long time?

Ellen
Richard Rohr and the Enneagram Secret I highly recommend this book. It is factual and detailed. I have been challenged in my faith to confront the Enneagram in our former local church, as women in leadership roles have promoted it. The authors of this book successfully describe the Enneagram, it's true origins, how it is being used and promoted, the background of Enneagram promoters, why it is not Christian, and most importantly... why it does not honor God, nor does it provide a means of spiritual growth. In my own conversations with church members and leaders, I have heard excuses why people can use it harmlessly. But the authors address all of these reasons, and why these reasons are simply not true. Not everything is redeemable, the authors tell us in this book. And they are right. If you are curious about the Enneagram, or know of people who are using it, please read this book and share the wealth of knowledge that these authors have put together. You will not find it anywhere else. Every Christian should read this, because many people (pastors and church leaders, too) are being deceived by Enneagram teachers. Read more
