About the author
Nancy Peterson has been an educator for 40 years in the capacity of teacher, site and district administrator and currently as an educational consultant specializing in secondary curriculum and instructional support for districts throughout the state of California. She has a deep understanding of what changes are necessary in the classroom to implement the new Common Core standards and she is responsible for guiding the strategic effort to transition to the Common Core, including common curricular maps and district assessments, in her former district and several around the state. During her career, she has been engaged in countless efforts to benefit students and schools. Her successful endeavors include key district-wide structures for student success, such as the selection of essential standards in ELA and Math, aligned to California state standards and the new Common Core; creation of common pacing guides and curricula, as well as common district-wide benchmark summative assessments for all core content areas; implementation and use of an assessment management system; and implementation of an effective content area communications system.
