About the author
Dr Janice Scott Cover has spent most of her professional life working in urban school systems. Her life’s calling has been to provide and support the means through which all students can achieve high standards. Named one of South Florida’s Most Influential & Prominent Women, she has been featured in the Principal Magazine as a “Turn-Around Principal.” Currently, Dr Cover is the President & CEO of Improving Schools Consulting Services whose mission is to partner with schools to significantly improve student achievement. Previously, she has served as a teacher (K-12), assistant principal, principal, director of elementary education, assistant superintendent, area superintendent and district equity coordinator. Her work includes developing and implementing a reform model that dramatically turned around an elementary school, resulting in significant academic and behavioral improvements, as well as fostering positive changes in teacher performance. She was actively involved in the design and opening of the first career alternative education school in the district. She also has expertise in designing and implementing unique after-school, Saturday and summer school enrichment and remediation programs.
