About the author

Linda Chitwood is an animal welfare activist and the volunteer Director of The Homeless Animals Relief Project (HARP), a nonprofit animal welfare charity she began in 1996 and incorporated in 2000. Based in north Mississippi, HARP was founded in response to the overpopulation and overwhelming health care needs of cats and dogs living with the poor. HARP has provided free or very low-cost spay/neuter care for over 15,000 pets living with low-income people—all on a shoestring budget. The recipient of The Annie Lee Roberts Courage & Compassion Award from The Summerlee Foundation, Chitwood has over 20 years of experience in addressing pet welfare challenges and providing spay/neuter surgery to pets of the poor. Because the majority of pet overpopulation comes from disadvantaged communities, HARP volunteers direct their efforts there and $5 For a Cat Head reveals how they do it. 100% of the profits from this book will go to the animals served by HARP and will be used for their spay/neuter surgeries.

$5 For a Cat Head
True Stories of Animal Welfare With Hands-On Tips for Helping Animals
by Linda Chitwood

Overview

Do you love pets but feel powerless to help those less fortunate than yours? Ever wonder how you can improve the lives of the homeless cats living in your community, or what you can do to convince your neighbors to fix their dogs? How you can be an effective animal advocate when you don't have a big budget, or the best way to approach a vet for help with a stray animal? These questions, and more, are answered in $5 For a Cat Head. Because none of the animals featured in the book could write their own histories, the author recounts their lives and concludes each story with lessons learned. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, never is the wonder and mystery of these companion animals overlooked.
