Jo Muse was born on a red clay road in Holly Springs MS to a son and daughter of cotton farmers. Penniless and with the promise of fair wages by Henry Ford their family moved to Southwest Detroit MI when he was two. The family went from welfare to work in the auto business. What Jo learned from his parents was applying oneself through poverty, hard work, failure and misfortune. He later worked his way through Michigan State University and New York University and majored in advertising and journalism.  Upon graduation moved to California with his bride the former Carol Fox started an advertising agency without a loan or savings. In his early days Jo sold ads door to door in lily-white Orange County.

 

Today Jo is a self-made millionaire and has written his first novel about race, riots, religion and relationships – Mixed Blessings. Is Race Real? He has long entertained audiences with his take of race relations and being committed to remembering where he came from.
