                                                            ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Ed Tar was born in Detroit, Michigan.  He was the sixth in a family of seven children.  With two parents and a grandmother in the house, it was a chaotic and often times negative environment with constant turmoil surrounding a lack of money, not even enough to buy coal for the furnace to heat the house.

Finishing high school, a challenge in itself as three of his siblings quit before graduating, Ed graduated and decided to leave the toxic situation.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Following three years of service, he returned home and enrolled in college, something he had dreamed of doing, but college was never discussed at home.

"The most memorable of my college courses was English," he said, "taught by a young author, Joyce Carol Oates. She challenged us with new authors to read.  Her class turned me on to writing."

It was in college where he met his future wife, Pat, a sparkling and popular student with aspirations of modeling and acting. After graduation they went separate ways to pursue their own careers.  He went into journalism and she into modeling in New York.  A year later they met up again and decided to marry.

He continued as a journalist and anchor in radio and television news in Michigan and Ohio.  Moving to Los Angeles in the late 1970’s, his thinking expanded as he also became an independent producer of television documentaries, short films and live corporate shows.

His work has been honored with numerous awards from organizations across the U.S. including the International Film and TV Festival of New York, the U. S. Industrial Film Festival, the California Newspaper Ad Executives Association, and the Hollywood Angels Award honoring him for his stirring TV documentary, Kids, Dreams and Courage.  His work has been featured in several magazines.

He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, painter and former actress Pat Gainor.

RUN THE MUSIC is his second book.

His debut memoir, REACHING FOR FIREFLIES is the powerful story of growing up in Detroit, and his gutsy decision, against all odds, to escape the negative, disruptive environment surrounding him and find a better path in life.
