Originally from Mint Hill, North Carolina Dana Lowery graduated from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina in Pembroke and a Master’s in Library and Information Studies from East Carolina University. She is Nationally Board Certified and the head librarian for Watauga High School in beautiful Boone, North Carolina. This mother of two wonderful and talented sons loves the opportunity to work with students and encourage a love of reading while stressing the importance of seeking accurate and sound information in print and online. Dana travels to schools, museums, and universities throughout the year to speak on behalf of her tribe. She has organized and planned cultural celebrations and participates in cultural events locally and where her tribe predominantly resides (Pembroke, North Carolina). She aligns her passion with a quote from Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins a Paiute American Indian Activist that reads "Much money and many precious lives would have been saved if you had fought my people with Books instead of Power."
