About The Author

Dana Lowery is an activist author and member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. The head librarian for Watauga High School, Nationally Board Certified, Dana has worked as a librarian for over twenty years. She loves the opportunity to work with students, and encourages a love of reading while stressing the importance of seeking accurate and sound information in print and online. Dana also spends time throughout the year travelling to various schools to speak on behalf of her tribe. She has organized and planned cultural celebrations and participates in cultural events both locally and in her tribe's current residence city of Pembroke. She aligns her passion with a quote from Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins, a Paiute American Indian Activist, which reads "Much money and many precious lives would have been saved if you had fought my people with Books instead of Power." Her latest book, "Stella and the Stories All Around Her," is her first children's book and joins Dana's numerous biographical and historical works.
