Kathy Mathis is a freelance writer with a PhD in American Literature. For most of her career, she was the program director at the New Hampshire Humanities Council, where she spearheaded cultural events and projects in history, world religions, literature, law, and interpretation of the fine arts. Before she retired, she rallied N.H. veterans who saw combat in Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. They gathered in groups with classics professors to read 3,000-year-old epic poetry, proving that Homer's Odyssey still had powerful meaning for those who knew what it was like to return home after war. Kathy lives in Concord, New Hampshire with her husband Jeff and Juno the Great Pyrenees.
