Hello, my name is Lynda Gordon, also known as “Aunt Lynny” in the Coogie series. For over 40 years, I’ve been dedicated to animal rescue. Not only do I help animals find their forever homes, but I also support families who adopt them during challenging times, such as the hardships we faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through our foundation, “Friends of Miami Animals,” we actively advocate for animal welfare legislation. We strive to change laws that protect our four-legged friends and impose stricter penalties, including imprisonment, for those who violate these laws. Our primary focus is on homeless pets, spray and neuter initiatives, and pet retention.
“Coogie” is named after my late husband, Dr. Michael S. Gordon, a renowned cardiologist who invented the first Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator used in medical education. Coogie was his imaginary childhood friend, and the name stuck with Michael throughout his life. Education was our guiding principle in our philanthropy, and we lived by a slogan that Michael penned: “Dream Big, Work Hard, and Help Others.”
Each subsequent book in the Coogie series will feature exciting adventures, but with a twist—a valuable life lesson to be learned. So, thank you once again, and please be vigilant about the animals in your communities who are desperately in need of help.
