Wired - To Fight! To Battle! To Win!
Against the Miseducation of Minority Children
by Dr. Toureno D. Taylor

Overview

"Wired" is about having your mind connected in the right way to deal with a culture that has been turned upside down due to poor policies in the educational system. What we have is a structure that lends itself to those who can game the system for personal financial gains and to advance the cause of a particular subset of society. The subsets are identified through local school districts and zip codes. The story of the "A Lion Among Sheep" is meant to illustrate how a person can be raised in a certain environment without knowing they have a greatness within themselves. Their potential will only come out when they realize not just who they are, but what they are.

Description

This book covers how Black and Hispanic families have to deal with an educational system that does not work for all children. With the many issues families deal with, the biggest challenge is how to prepare their child for a world that is constantly changing. Social media, cultural changes, climate change, technology, school shootings, and the drug crisis are inundating our communities and schools in overwhelming ways. Fixing a broken educational system is a challenge from all sides, and the teacher's frustrations can be transferred to the students. The information in this book is presented not as a fix-all but to give insight to parents so they can deal with the growing challenges now and in the future of education. There is no one size fits all solution for dealing with the educational problem. The best tool is knowledge and communication with our students. As a parent and former teacher, vice-principal/principal, and minister, the author has a unique perspective on how to deal with children in the educational system. Seeing the whole child means knowing how the community affects the schools and how the school can positively affect the community.
