When he first looks upon the Planning Commission’s revision of his design, this is what he writes to President Washington. “[The plan is] now in a state in which it is most unmercifully spoiled and altered from the original plan to a degree indeed evidently tending to disgrace me and ridicule the very undertaking.” This “unmercifully spoiled and altered” revision became Washington, D.C. L’Enfant’s role was not known until the 1880s. His name had been removed from the 1792 document and credit was given to Andrew Ellicott. Why? About the author
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1952, I entered archaeology twenty years later in the S.F. Bay Area working a local prehistoric site as part of a summer course. Addicted, I soon joined the ranks of largely student archaeologists working in contract archaeology. In 1976, a BA in anthropology, minor: comparative religions, at San Diego State. In 1989, a MA in anthropology from the University of Arizona. Professionally, I have always been interested in lithics and First American research. Sacred Geometry turned my life around when it unlocked the sacred architecture of Chaco Canyon, which unexpectedly led me to the marvelous discoveries in Washington, D.C.
