About the author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR A native of St. Louis, Billy worked his way up the east coast, after college, and eventually landed in New York City where he pursued a very successful career as a performer and as an undergraduate level instructor in musical theater at NYU. All along, however, he devoted his down time to his other passion - writing. After three decades in the city, and loaded with a stockpile of his heretofore unpublished work, Billy moved to upstate New York where he bought a rambling Victorian mansion in which he lives a life of semi-retirement, dedicating time - every day - to his writing. Being a gay man, his stories naturally flow from the perspective by which he sees the world. Although the majority of his friends are and always have been straight, Mr. Allen's postion has remained that of one happily on the outside warily looking in. In his writing, he depicts a variety of characters and circumstances - from the young, coming-of-age experience to a more seasoned variation of how love and relationships thrive or fail between two individuals. Never having contemplated the idea of putting his material "out there", the advent of self-publishing gave the author the impetus to proceed with the next step - his objection having always been that the traditional road to being published was too impersonal and fraught with a lot of heartache and rejection - something the actor in him understood all too well by the very nature of that vocation. Now having the ability to be the master of his own literary destiny, Billy Allen is proud to be joining the ranks of his fellow gay authors - striving to make the world a more accepting and multifaceted place, story by story. (Billy Allen is a pen name for this author who has spent most of his life in the theater wearing many hats including, but not limited to, actor/writer/director/producer and adjunct professor. With so many irons in that particular fire, he made the decision to publish his writing with no particular attachment to or prejudice toward his other career.)

Two Rights

Overview

Two Rights - Petey Waggoner committed an innocent enough crime but, rather than face the consequences, he takes it on the lam and is (literally) picked up on the side of the road by Tucker Harrison, a handsome stranger in a pick-up truck, with a past of his own and bound for the mountains of Wyoming. Completely smitten by his rescuer, Petey is convinced they should remain together and, as events unfold, they are bound to one another first by circumstance and, eventually, by love. This 1950's road trip takes two young fugitives on a cross country journey to an inevitable reckoning.

Description

Two Rights - Fourteen-year-old Petey Waggoner grew up in the small town of Nixa, Missouri in the idyllic 1950's Midwest. Never quite feeling like he belonged, to his hometown or his family, he takes a back seat to his older brother, Randy, in almost every manner. One day, Petey makes a decision to commit a petty crime that doesn't seem so petty at the time and, rather than face the consequences, he resolves to hitchhike west and take his chances on the open road. He hoodwinks a handsome passing stranger, one Tucker Harrison, into taking him as far as Joplin - weaving a few tall tales along the way. The two form a rather odd sort of friendship and somehow Petey ends up going a lot further with Tucker than Joplin. Although Petey has a schoolboy crush on his older companion, Tucker instead plays the role of big brother and brings the kid along with him to Wyoming. The two begin a new life together and eventually find absolution from their past mistakes by doing right by others - and doing what they ultimately know is right for themselves.
