Description
George Cormier was born the seventh child in a family of nine in February of 1929. He grew up in a house in Maine until he was seven or eight years old and then moved to an abandoned apple farm. Helping his parents on the farm took priority over school, especially as World War II slowly took his brothers away. Eventually, it became too difficult to sustain, and they had no choice but to move to the city. While absence from school was acceptable in the country, the city was not as forgiving. The family was unaware of the consequences until it was too late. George was sentenced at 15 years old to six months of incarceration at the Middlesex County Truant School in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.
In this story of hope, George gives us an honest account of people and experiences that could easily have made him bitter, but instead he used to positively shape how he navigated his fascinating life ahead.
Take it from George, "We are all responsible for what we become."
