Though It Can't Last

For over a decade beginning in 2010 poet Susan Debora King and photographer Hal Watson engaged in a private, artistic, and creative jam session of sorts. Watson's stunningly spiritual photographs of our natural world and King's passionate poems refract off of one another in ways that both challenge and heal at the same time. King's poems unlock stories, questions, and realms of meaning from Watson's photographs and make us wonder what keys do we hold within us as well? All of this work is brought forth with an attitude of wonder and awe. Over the course of 23 poems and photographs, we are privy to intimate ruminations and breathtakingly expansive celebrations - and always left with a sense of gratitude for the beauty and wholeness of a world that quietly invites us to contemplation.

Susan Deborah King, MDiv, is a poet and author of several full-length poetry collections including Bog Orchids, Coven, One-Breasted Woman and Moon Dance. She has lead retreats on creativity and spirituality, taught English and Creative Writing in a host of institutional settings, and, privately, has acted as mentor to emerging writers. She lives with her husband in two locations on the coast of Maine, mainland and an island.

Hal Watson is a photographer who loves nothing more than to disappear into quiet and forgotten corners of the Kinnickinnic River watershed where he and his wife make a home in western Wisconsin. Over the years he has served on the Board of the Kinnickinnic River Land Trust and the River Falls City Council. When not exploring with his camera, he manages geographic information systems for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
