Life just hasn't been the same for Losten Deforest since someone saved his.

Losten Deforest - Yes, he has the same opinion of his name that you do - is a prospective engineering student whose life is turned upside down when his car crashes into a river. He thinks an angel saved him, but, of course, no one believes him. After all, this is reality, not some YA adventure novel.

At college he meets Emerys Treasure, an old-fashioned girl whom he tutors in math and to whom he develops feelings. However, a near-fatal dock accident complicates their budding relationship when Emerys uses her supernatural ability to save him. Now, Losten must come to terms with the reality that the girl he likes isn’t exactly human. At least, not all the time.

With this new found knowledge comes peril, in the form of Emerys’ family, since not every member is happy that Losten knows their secret. As events spiral out of his control, Losten must decide which he treasures more – the old-fashioned girl with golden hair or his own safety – or will both be lost in the end?

Losten Deforest - Yes, he has the same opinion of his name that you do - is a highly academic student whose plan to attend a prestigious university is cancelled by his family's move two months after his high school graduation. As soon as he moves, however, he crashes his car into a river, but is rescued – by what he believes is an angel. At the local community college, he meets Emerys, an old-fashioned girl who harbors a secret that Losten accidentally learns. However, Losten can’t understand why this information is even a secret or why his knowledge of it causes some members of her family to distrust him. As their relationship unfolds, Losten must contend with increasing danger, and given his wit and skepticism towards the various predicaments in which he finds himself, his life will never be the same – or will that be a moot point?

About the author

After obtaining a college degree in engineering, Cliffie worked as an engineer for six years and then headed to graduate school, only to realize after a semester that he wanted to write a novel. Thus, he gave up on his graduate school ambitions and spent the better part of a year improving his fiction writing and working on “The Tale of Emerys Treasure.”
