Overview

The Women of Mendia have a secret. They are called the Burrachi. Ordinary, and miraculous. Revered, and reviled. Throughout the ages, there have been whispers of their curious talents, uncommon favor, and deep protection. In a forgotten corner of the ever-changing world, they are content to dwell, and keep their strange ways. All of this makes for good tales, but are the Mothers of Mendia actually hiding something in their bloodline that sets them apart? They might never tell, but their covenants endure, and must never be broken. The children of the primal orchard know the truth. Obedience brings purity. Blessings carry burdens. Secrets demand fealty. This is the story of the girl who defied them.

About the author
J.L. Pedersen is a New Hampshire native. From poetry, to prose, to fiction, she travels with her writing into the realm of what she calls "the hidden heart", which can be found in all creatures and creations. Growing up in a small, rural town, she learned early how to listen carefully to the world around her, finding her appreciation for nature, imagination, and creativity at an early age. Being a New Englander taught her pragmatism, as well as fierce nostalgia, which informs her writing style and guides her artistic expression as an author. From the sacred to the profane she takes her tales, as life has taken her. "The journey is always worth taking; the words we speak and the stories we tell become the totems of our myth."

Beautifully Written The author painted a beautiful landscape with her words; I felt that I could perfectly picture Erein's world. The characters are well-formed and inspiring in their strength. I will be recommending to others and will surely read it again. Read more

The Sayer The Sayer is exquisite dazzling prose, so well-written that it reaches into the heights and depths of the soul (ka). This many-faceted story is not to be gobbled up, but savored like a dish prepared by a most talented chef; to be sipped and lingered over like a fine, rare wine. In many ways, Erein’s journey reflects our own. The reader may be challenged to choose between the path of knowing all knowledge, or the path of faith and acceptance that there are mysteries and wonders beyond our knowing. You must tread carefully, lest you lose your way to the deep meanings. The Sayer is a treasure!
