Description

Today's young athletes face more pressure than ever before. Between competition, social media, expectations, and constant evaluation, many athletes are struggling with confidence, anxiety, emotional burnout, and fear of failure. Most parents genuinely want to help, but very few are ever taught how to support performance without unintentionally increasing pressure. The Performance Parent: Coaching the Mind Without Crossing the Line provides a practical framework for helping parents better support their athletes through competition, adversity, growth, and development. Drawing from his experience as a Marine veteran, performance psychology practitioner, leadership educator, and Human Performance Optimization Site Director supporting military Special Operations units, Dr. Jeremiah Palmer combines lessons from elite performance environments with the realities of youth sports parenting. Inside, parents will learn: • How to build lasting confidence • The difference between influence and control • How to help athletes handle failure and pressure • What to say after games and competitions • How to improve communication with coaches • How to create a healthier performance environment at home • Why character matters more than championships This book is not about creating perfect athletes. It's about raising resilient, disciplined, and confident young people who can thrive under pressure in sport and in life. The Performance Parent is a concise, practical guide designed to help parents become a steady source of support, composure, and leadership throughout their child's athletic journey.

About The Author

Dr. Jeremiah Palmer is a performance psychology practitioner, Marine veteran, and leadership educator who has spent more than a decade helping high-performing individuals and teams thrive under pressure. A former United States Marine machine gunner, Dr. Palmer later earned his doctorate in sport performance psychology and has worked extensively with Special Operations units, NCAA athletes, and elite performers in demanding environments. Today, he serves as a Human Performance Optimization Site Director supporting military Special Operations units, where he helps operators develop the mental skills required to perform when the stakes are highest. Through years of working with athletes and families, Dr. Palmer discovered that the most influential factor in a young athlete's mindset is often not the coach, the trainer, or the scoreboard—it's the parent. The Performance Parent was written to help parents better understand their role in shaping confidence, resilience, composure, and character through sport. Dr. Palmer is the founder of 18th Century, a performance psychology organization focused on developing disciplined thinking and composure under pressure.
