About the author

I truly believe paradise is attainable right here on earth. More and more every day, news of death, destruction, environmental disasters, mass displacements of people, and the extinction of species at a pace never seen before numbs and overwhelms us, making us feel powerless.

But we can stop it. And we can create paradise both within and around us.

I wrote this book to show how you, the reader – indeed the many, many of us who care so deeply for each other and our planet – can be a catalyst to bring happiness and lasting peace to everyone and everything you care about."

Dr. V.M. Parikh’s earlier book The New Spirituality highlights the struggle of today’s youth to rescue spirituality from religious dogma and ground it on social justice.

He believes passionately that movements like those growing out of the Tiananmen Square uprising, Black Lives Matter, and environmental and animal rights causes (among many others) are deeply spiritually motivated. Any action that motivates sacrifice is, in his view, intensely spiritual.

Parikh followed that exploration with Walk With Me, where he tells the story of a sixth-century B.C. philosopher, Mahavir, who challenged India’s oppressive caste and patriarchal systems and created a liturgy based on peace, dignity, and the sanctity of all living beings. His teachings have been at the foundation of non-violent movements around the world, including those of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.

Now, Dr. Parikh’s latest and possibly most important work is revealed in his new book The Paradise Project.

A proud father and grandfather, Parikh lives with his wife, Nalini, in beautiful Victoria, Canada.

The Paradise Project
A Personal Guide to Creating Inner and Global Peace
by Vastupal Parikh

Overview

After dreaming about paradise – not as a futuristic idyll but as something that can be attained and experienced in our own lifetime – young Aaron becomes convinced that he must lead efforts to realise these visions. He persuades three friends to join him in this mission.

Through debate and discussion, the group of four learn how, through tapping into their truest, purest consciousness, they can walk along a path from inner peace to collaborative action. The Paradise Project spreads like wild-fire, quickly becoming a worldwide movement.

This book is the product of Dr. VM Parikh’s search to understand how people came to live out healthy and happy lives in pockets of paradise on earth. He explored ancient literature, myths, and legends in search of a common thread. He consulted diverse communities - aboriginal, ethnic, and religious - to get at the philosophical basis and secrets of these ever-happy communities. What caused the loss of paradise on earth, and how do we get it back?

The Paradise Project is an ambitious effort to stop the rapid, seemingly uncontrollable slide of our planet into self-destruction. We are all desirous and capable of change – of being active agents of the kind of transformation we each think needs to unfold. The book takes the reader through the stages necessary to see clearly, and act decisively not only for our own well-being, but also for the collective good.

The first section vividly brings to life the maladies currently affecting our planet, and about which many of us feel overwhelmed. The Paradise Project then empowers and enables each person to become active agents of change. The final section offers details on establishing or working through NGOs that similarly exist to improve the plight of the planet and its inhabitants.

It is the author’s sincerest hope that readers will use the techniques revealed in this book to create the kind of inner peace or paradise they dream of for themselves and for their communities.

Description

Our planet was once a paradise to all creatures who inhabited it. And then . . .humans arrived.

Today, the stresses on our planet – not just on human beings, but also, and critically, on all the systems upon which life relies – are too many to count, and too dire to ignore. Dr. VM Parikh has deep faith in the human psyche and spirt, and believes that each and every one of us is capable of saving this planet. Paradise Project teaches us how.
