Description


Patrick and Betsy are fifth graders. Someone is their school is frightening the students by inserting scary things into their lunch boxes. The two decide to become detectives, find the culprit, and deal with him or her. Betsy initiates the detective duo, and Patrick decides he could work with her. Patrick says they have become Sherlock Holmes and Watson, but Betsy simply says they are Patrick and Betsy. They draw up a suspect list. Patrick is extremely skeptical of one of them. They resolve their differences and proceed. They develop a list of clues. They interview one of the suspects and decide it is not her. Another on their list of three is eliminated by events. They identify the third suspect as the culprit by teamwork. Betsy rides her bicycle to the point where she catches the culprit in the act of catching a scary thing. Patrick contributes by using a remote device to film him inserting it into a lunch box. They convince the PTA and school superintendent of the culprit and he is expelled. The good guys win! The book teaches how to work together to obtain a good result. and why teamwork is important.
