About The Author

Avalene Braden was inspired to write The Mice at Christmas after hearing about a memorable holiday outing her son, Joe, had while picking out a Christmas tree at a local tree farm. As Joe was paying for the freshly cut tree, two tiny mice unexpectedly tumbled out of its branches. His delightful story immediately sparked Avalene's imagination. Later, while sitting in the family's candy shop in Waynesville, Ohio, Avalene picked up a legal pad and began writing. As she often recalls, "The words just flowed." From that inspired moment came a heartwarming Christmas story celebrating kindness, friendship, and the magic of the holiday season. The Mice at Christmas is a special milestone for Avalene as she celebrates more than 90 years of a life filled with family, creativity, and joy. Surrounded by loved ones and still enjoying her regular trips to Bill's Donuts, she continues to embrace each day with enthusiasm and a youthful spirit. Her imagination, warmth, and love of storytelling remind us that it's never too late to follow a dream or inspire generations of readers.
