Book details
Overview
EVERYONE ARGUES OVER WHO SHOULD RUN THE WORLD. THE WORLD IS ABOUT TO START RUNNING ITSELF.
Politics is mostly team sport. Pick a color, adopt the matching opinions, argue. This book refuses to play.
It starts with the question every political argument skips: what are we actually trying to maximize? Vance Ashley Woodward answers plainly. Let everyone live as long as they like. To support that, get everyone the Package — freedom, health, safety, and resources. Everything after that is engineering.
He didn't write this book to sell you a candidate, a revolution, or a newsletter about buying gold before the collapse. He wrote it because the incentives are visible if you bother to look, and almost nobody bothers.
In Part I, you take the Autocrat's chair and design governance from first principles, reasoning from incentives rather than allegiances and showing the arithmetic. Why markets are the best device ever built for allocating scarce things, and exactly where they fail. Why your vote doesn't matter, and why a third-option vote is the only one that does. How to make a wealth tax ungameable: the state names the price, and the owner either pays the tax or makes the state buy at its own number. Why transparency, not virtue, is the only reliable defense against political capture.
In Part II, it gets empirical. The United States and China, on the numbers: wealth, debt, currencies, militaries, demographics, the dollar's reserve status — and why the Last World War has already happened.
You don't have to take his word for it. The book ends with a scorecard of dated, falsifiable wagers — no invasion of Taiwan, governance automated by 2040, China taking the top GDP spot by 2035 — each stating exactly what would prove him wrong.
Follow the incentives, and the world stops being confusing.
Part of the Meatbot's Guide series, alongside The Meatbot's Guide to Health: Live Long Happy and The Meatbot's Guide to AI: Prepare to Retire.
