Overview
"The Man Who Was Dr. Seuss" is the first personal AND literary biography of Theodor Geisel, who wrote so many classic children's books: "Green Eggs and Ham," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" and many others. This book reveals the morals children instinctively understand from the Dr. Seuss books and how Geisel came to write (and illustrate) them. Engaging and charming literary biography.
Description
"The Man Who Was Dr. Seuss" is the first personal AND literary biography of Theodor Geisel, known world-wide for classic children's books such as "Green Eggs and Ham"; "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" and many others. It shows the morals that children instinctively understand from such simple story-telling; why parents are seldom seen in Dr. Seuss books, why the action in Dr. Seuss books always moves to the right and which character is a "trickster hero" -- This book is full of fabulous facts and fanciful fables -- including how Geisel's first book was turned down by -- in his own account (which varied from time to time) -- 27 book publishers -- before it was finally accepted for publication. This is a joyful romp through the life and books of Ted Geisel, written by an author who grew up on the Dr. Seuss books. The author still has his childhood copy of "McElligot's Pool," which Dr. Seuss first published in 1947.
