The Long Table

A Collection of Poetry and Prose

By Dyane Lewis Carrere

Overview

In The Long Table, the "renaissance" of later life is not a slowing down, but a deepening—a vibrant, unvarnished mapping of the interior landscapes we create over time. Written from the vantage point of her eighth decade, Dyane Lewis Carrere navigates the worn edges of memory and the quiet clarity of the present, offering a voice to a generation actively redefining what it means to age. While anchored in the wisdom of experience, these poems and prose hold universal truths that cross generational lines. Whether you are just beginning to gather stories of your own or have been tending a hearth for decades, there is a seat reserved for you here—among the memories, moments, and characters gathered at The Long Table.

Description

In The Long Table, the "renaissance" of later life is not a slowing down, but a deepening—a vibrant, unvarnished mapping of the interior landscapes we create over time. Written from the vantage point of her eighth decade, Dyane Lewis Carrere navigates the worn edges of memory and the quiet clarity of the present, offering a voice to a generation actively redefining what it means to age. While anchored in the wisdom of experience, these poems, micro-short stories and short stories hold universal truths that cross generational lines. It explores the beauty of connection, the drive for dreams, the abundance found in the natural world, the strength found in heartbreak and the deep joy of love. Whether someone is just beginning to gather stories of their own or have been tending a hearth for decades, there is a seat reserved for everyone here—among the memories, moments, and characters gathered at The Long Table.

About The Author

Dyane Carrere spent fifty years addressing the complexities of the human psyche, a career exploring how people seek connection, how they struggle and triumph, how they hurt and heal. Her non-fiction book, The Re-Set Process (2020), focused on trauma and supportive interventions. She finds a thin veil between her professional life of old and her new life as a storyteller in prose and poetry; her profound respect for the complex, fractured, and abundantly beautiful nature of human beings is the heartbeat of both. Her passion now finds its voice through pieces that embody deep psychological truths, marking a vibrant 'later light renaissance' in her writing life. This debut collection, The Long Table, utilizes everyday objects, small moments, and the wonders of nature to map the interior landscapes of memory, relationships, and resilience. A mother, grandmother, and lifelong lover of the natural world, Dyane lives in New England with her husband, two cats who take turns curling around her head each night, and a very large dog who wishes he were allowed to do the same. She knows that her life is best characterized by the phrase "my cup runneth over."
