Description

There is a seat waiting for you. The Long Table is an invitation to pause, reflect, and gather around the shared experiences that shape us. Across 85 works of fiction and memoir fused—sixty-one poems, seventeen micro-fiction pieces, and seven short stories—this collection explores the significance of everyday moments and the profound and sometimes fickle nature of memory. The ten chapters carry you on a journey through childhood, family and community, love and grief, the press of the outside world, nature and aging. Here, you are bound to find a reflection of yourself in the pages or perhaps even multiple versions of yourself—the person you once were, who you are today, or who you still dream of becoming.

About The Author

Dyane Carrere spent fifty years addressing the complexities of the human psyche, a career exploring how people seek connection, how they struggle and triumph, how they hurt and heal. Her non-fiction book, The Re-Set Process (2020), focused on trauma and supportive interventions. She finds a thin veil between her professional life of old and her new life as a storyteller in prose and poetry; her profound respect for the complex, fractured, and abundantly beautiful nature of human beings is the heartbeat of both. Her passion now finds its voice through pieces that embody deep psychological truths, marking a vibrant 'later light renaissance' in her writing life. This debut collection, The Long Table, utilizes everyday objects, small moments, and the wonders of nature to map the interior landscapes of memory, relationships, and resilience. A mother, grandmother, and lifelong lover of the natural world, Dyane lives in New England with her husband, two cats who take turns curling around her head each night, and a very large dog who wishes he were allowed to do the same. She knows that her life is best characterized by the phrase "my cup runneth over."
