As you read this story you might notice that certain lines are repeated. The reason being is that the original version was told out-loud to students. At the time the author was teaching a bunch of preschoolers and made it up on-the-spot. (While drawing on a dry erase board.) Repeating lines is a traditional practice to see if your audience is paying attention. After a few paragraphs, the storyteller will pause and allow the listeners to finish the line.
