About the author
After serving 4 years of active duty in the Marine Corps, Ron Karlson joined the Los Angeles Police Department. For the next 28 ½ years he held several different assignments, but he became fixated on the role of detective. He primarily worked as a homicide detective and started in South-Central Los Angeles, and he eventually retired as a detective supervisor from Robbery-Homicide Division, (RHD). As a result of his assignment within RHD he became recognized as a court expert in Officer-Involved Shooting investigations and taught OIS investigative procedures for the International Associations of Chiefs of Police and The State of California Department of Justice. His teaching also included crime scene investigation at Fullerton College. Prior to his retirement he was involved in helping develop a major case management system and serial murder tracking system. He is a certified State of California crime and intelligence analyst. Ron currently resides in Anthem, Arizona, with his wife Darlene, a retired registered nurse.
