When Vemzadh, the head feldavi assassin to their queen, seeks for a trustworthy slave to aid his escape, Donna falls into his lap. Her knowledge of traveling makes her ideal; however, her only goal is to survive as long as possible. What they weren't expecting was forming a deeper bond. They must escape from below and if anyone were to discover their true relationship, they will be killed.

In a world divided by soil, the Feldavi lurk below. It's no secret they remain in alignment with certain kingdoms from above to work their dirty deeds of assassination. In exchange, the feldavi are granted slaves. The head assassin to the queen of the feldavi, Vemzadh, gets the job done better than anyone. Hated and feared by all, he silently suffers, and wishes, for freedom. While he cannot withstand the sun and loathes people, they're his pawns to win his own chess game. Now he's in need of a new knight; one that'll keep him safe in the daylight. Surprisingly, a human is given to be his new slave: Donna. Life has struck her every chance it got, and now she's been served for the slaughter. Her only chance to live is to keep her smart mouth shut. Not an easy task. In the depths of his shadow, she rises; in the depth of her soul, he lives. It's these temptations which play the most risks. Only one way out and a hundred ways to die...

Rachel Belville is a major fan of the fantasy role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). She plays every weekend with her best friends as the mischievous, chaotic-neutral rogue. She's happily married and the proud stay-at-home mom of four young children, who often give her humorous ideas.
