About The Author

Rob Lancit has spent more than three decades helping entrepreneurs make some of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. Throughout his career in franchising, he has served as a consultant, franchisor, franchisee, area developer, and executive, building a reputation for telling people what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear.

Away from business, Rob is a father first. His greatest successes and toughest lessons have little to do with boardrooms and everything to do with family, relationships, and the mistakes that quietly shape who we become.

He wrote Take My Advice, I'm Not Using It as a legacy for his children. What began as a personal project grew into something much larger when he realized the stories weren't unique to his life. They're the kinds of experiences most people have lived but rarely talk about.

Rob lives in South Florida, still believes the best conversations happen over a beer, still trains like he's trying to outrun aging, and still enjoys music loud enough to remind him he's a Gen Xer. He doesn't claim to have life figured out. He simply believes there's value in telling the truth about the journey.

Take My Advice, I'm Not Using It

My Life Lessons and the Mistakes I've Made

By Rob Lancit

Overview

Some lessons arrive with experience. Others arrive after you've ignored every warning, made the wrong decision anyway, and lived with the consequences.

Take My Advice, I'm Not Using It is a candid look at one man's life through the wins, the failures, the heartbreak, the humor, and everything in between. Rob Lancit doesn't present himself as an expert or a guru. He writes as someone who has spent decades making mistakes, learning from them, and realizing that life rarely follows the plan.

Each chapter tells a true story that ends with a simple lesson, not because Rob believes he has all the answers, but because every scar has something to teach. Whether it's family, relationships, career, money, fatherhood, or learning to face uncomfortable truths, these stories remind us that growth rarely comes from getting everything right.

Honest, funny, self-deprecating, and unmistakably Gen X, Take My Advice, I'm Not Using It is a book for anyone who's ever looked back and thought, "If I knew then what I know now..."

Description

Built around a series of true stories, Take My Advice, I'm Not Using It explores the moments that shape a life, often without us realizing it until years later.

Readers follow Rob through childhood, family loss, first love, career changes, financial mistakes, fatherhood, reinvention, and the relationships that challenged him to become a better man. Every chapter ends with a practical takeaway, not as advice from someone who has mastered life, but from someone who has earned each lesson through experience.

The stories range from hilarious to heartbreaking, yet they all share one common theme. Personal responsibility. Rather than blaming circumstances or rewriting history, Rob owns the decisions that shaped his life, both the good and the bad.

This isn't a motivational book or a step-by-step guide. It's an honest conversation with someone who's still learning, still growing, and willing to admit what most people keep to themselves. Readers won't find perfection in these pages. They'll find themselves.
