Sushi Rock, More than a Restaurant is the story of a highly successful establishment that was created and run for seventeen years in Hawi on The Big Island of Hawaii until it was forced to close due to the pandemic. It includes recipes, photos, anecdotes, observations and universal lessons. The author describes this journey and emotional growth through highly relatable experiences he had over the years. At the same time he paints a picture that will be both reminiscent to those who experienced it and descriptive to those who didn't. Also included are recipes for some of the restaurants most popular items and photos illustrating much of the story of this restaurant that developed a cult following over the 17 years it was open.

About The Author

Peter Pomeranze likes to describe himself as a New Yorker who found his personal holy grail in the North Kohala district on The Big Island of Hawaii. Born in 1954 in New York, he has spent his lifetime trying to integrate his inner New Yorker with his inner "Gupta" as a friend once named that piece of him. It took a lifetime to be comfortable living with that dichotomy and honing his personality to be, for him, the best of both worlds. Despite a successful career in different branches of the travel industry and taking full advantage of the 1970's NewYork scene he always felt somewhat unfulfilled but didn't even think he had the right to want more. At age 30, a twist of fate landed him in LosAngeles and after a fairly dark few years, there he took what he describes as a leap of faith and moved to Hawi on the Big Island. It was there where he slowly learned to appreciate his strengths and eventually identify and drop the parts of him that weren't serving him well. The newly found and still tenuous belief in himself led him into attracting a wonderful life with wonderful people around him. This journey and process continues to this day. Sushi Rock seemed to be the penultimate and peak of his life yet it all fell apart during Covid. As it fell apart a new chapter appeared in the form of Kohala Cares community service. This book, as a benefit for Kohala Cares, annotates and celebrates both the restaurant he created and the non profit that beautifully rose from the ashes when it ended.
