Description

What happens when the life you are living falls apart – not once, but again and again? In the space of a few years, Emma Pearson lost one of her dearest friends, her younger brother, her husband of nearly thirty years and her youngest daughter. Faced with grief upon grief, she found herself navigating widowhood, child loss, family, friendship, love and questions she never expected to ask: Who am I now? How do I live now? What remains when so much has been lost? Drawing on blog posts and reflections written both in the midst of grief and in the years that followed, Still Fire Inside is a deeply personal memoir of love, loss and the long, uneven path of learning to live in a world forever changed. Emma writes from within the fire itself, inviting readers into the confusion, heartbreak, tenderness and unexpected moments of beauty that can exist alongside grief. With honesty, warmth and occasional humour, she explores not only what it means to lose the people we love, but also how loss reshapes identity, relationships and our understanding of what truly matters. This is not a book about moving on. It is about carrying love and loss together. About finding ways to live with absence while remaining open to connection, meaning and joy. About discovering that even when life falls apart, something essential remains. Along the way, Emma reflects on marriage, motherhood, friendship, family, work, mortality, purpose and the myriad ways grief continues to shape us long after others assume we have "recovered." She explores the challenge of remaining open to life after profound loss, of allowing new love without betraying old love, and of discovering that healing is less about leaving grief behind than learning to carry it with great tenderness and honesty. Woven from almost a decade of writing, Still Fire Inside follows no prescribed path through grief. There are no stages, no easy answers and no promises that everything happens for a reason. Instead, it offers an unflinching account of what it means to keep living when life has been irrevocably altered. It is a story of resilience that does not deny suffering, hope that does not bypass sorrow, and love that refuses to end simply because someone has died. While deeply personal, Emma's story speaks to universal questions about love, identity, belonging and what it means to be fully human. Readers navigating grief, bereavement, widowhood, child loss, suicide loss or other life-changing transitions may find comfort, companionship and recognition in these pages. Those supporting someone they love through loss may also discover a deeper understanding of grief and the many forms it can take. At its heart, Still Fire Inside is a deeply human story of grief, love and the spark of life that remains. It is an invitation to discover that, even after unimaginable loss, there is still life to be lived, beauty to be noticed and love that continues to endure.

About The Author

Emma Pearson is a writer, executive coach, organisational psychologist and hospice volunteer whose work sits at the intersection of leadership, loss, meaning and what it means to live fully in uncertain times. For more than twenty-five years, Emma has worked internationally with leaders, teams and organisations navigating complexity, change and transition. Drawing on experience in psychology, organisational development, systems thinking and coaching, she supports individuals, teams and organisations to cultivate resilience, courage, compassion and a deeper sense of purpose. Alongside her professional work, Emma has spent many years volunteering in hospice and end-of-life care and brings a deep curiosity about how mortality and grief awareness can enrich both life and leadership. Her work is informed by the wisdom of end-of-life care, the natural cycles of growth and renewal, regenerative thinking, contemplative traditions, and an enduring interest in what helps people, organisations and communities flourish. Emma is particularly interested in how individuals and organisations navigate endings, loss, uncertainty and renewal, and how life's disruptions can become catalysts for growth, wisdom and transformation. She is also the author behind the long-running blog Widowing Empty Nests, where she writes candidly about love, loss, grief and rebuilding life after profound disruption. Through a series of life-altering personal losses, her writing and work have become increasingly focused on grief, mortality, resilience, and the question of how we continue to love life despite our hearts being broken. Her first book, "Still Fire Inside," is a memoir exploring love, loss, grief, and the enduring human capacity to keep showing up for life, even when it breaks our hearts. Originally from the United Kingdom, Emma now lives in France, near Geneva, where she divides her time between writing, coaching, speaking, being in the great outdoors, swimming, making music, and creating spaces with family, friends and anyone brave enough for honest conversations about the things that matter most.
